Venezia

In 2007 De Maria Design won the AIA Honor Award for Design Excellence/Special Innovation for Redondo Beach House. That house was a cool mixture of cargo containers, prefab, and conventional on site stick frame construction.

The firm is now working on Venice, a mixed-use project constructed of a series of inline recycled shipping containers. The advantage of using the containers as the main structural element for beach front property is that they are nearly weather resistant.

Now that a few firms are using containers to build around it is interesting to see different interpretations of how to finish them.

Venice at least in its illustrations is very beach worthy, and few people if not told would know it’s made of shipping containers. That’s the beauty of the container material completed with great design.
