The Bold and Beautiful
Peter Petersen is a new young self-taught Danish designer primarily known for commercial product such as info and brochure stands. Apart from that though he is getting recognition for his Tank furniture collection marked by mixing robustness with feminine lines.
Examples of this design are his shelves (see photos) which sport an overly exaggerated weightiness with an equal amount of exaggerated open space. Combined with the reflective surface Petersen’s shelves appear larger than life and are definite “statement” pieces. Surprisingly (and part of the magic) is the actual dimensions of the shelves are smaller than you would guess – just 35cm deep for instance.
What is interesting though about Petersen’s Tank Collection furniture is it provides a great example of bold furniture still suitable for smaller spaces. Also the brilliance of the design is its feminine lines still manage to accomplish a completely clean simple look. Often (maybe too often), in modern design clean lines become reduced to everything at 90 degree angles.
It’s great to see a designer go in the opposite direction and still end up in the same place as more conventional design. More information online at Peter Petersen’s company Signalement.
