Lost River Cabin
In Come Fly With Me we posted about a modular house in the Virginia Blue Ridge mountains available as a vacation get away.
Today, I was tipped off that Res4 architects also have a beautiful new modern prefab cabin available for guests. It’s located in the Lost River, West Virginia, just two hours west of DC.
The cabin’s footprint is 64×16 and has two bedrooms, two baths, a media room, and a walk-out basement. As you can see in the photos its not like any cabin you’ve ever stayed in - they’ve lost the moose antlers and pot belly stove. Actually, so the mood isn’t forgotten they left the pot belly stove, or at least a modernized version of one.
You can schedule a stay right from the website and a quick look shows that it is getting heavy weekend use so you probably need to book well ahead.
This brings up the subject of using modular houses for guest use. I’m envisioning a whole resort of modular houses as a new kind of vacation. It would be filled with various models by various architects all at the same location. Something like a permanent Burning Man just for modular houses.
That would be a great way for curious buyers to use the ‘try before you buy” method, and for architects to get people to actually live in a modular house during their stay. That’s a much different experience than just walking through a house during an exhibit.
In the mean-time, are there any other architects out there doing something similar to the Lost River cabin? If so you can drop the info here.
