Forbidden Rooms
Many can recall a relative or acquaintance that made a particular room in their house strictly off limits. The one I’m thinking of has a beautifully furnished sitting room that no one is allowed to enter – to in fact sit!
In that light a comic book piece called Forbidden Rooms by Ben Katchor published in Metropolis Mag should strike a cord with anyone who’s been told “no.”
The sentiment reminds me of a debate architectural photographers have on how a room should be photographed – devoid of any sign of life, or complete with the usual trappings of a typical household.
Possibly related to this, Dwell magazine once had as part of their manifesto that they promised not to show pictures of rooms with the all too present bowl of fruit. Read the comic at Metropolis Mag.
