FLW Remembered
The largest single site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright’s creations are housed on the campus of Florida Southern College.
Known collectively as “child of the sun,” the Guggenheim is getting ready to remember his work in an exhibit titled FLW: From Within Outward, said to open May 15th.
The project according to the source post in Designboom occupied Wright for 21 years until his death in 1959. There were 18 buildings designed in all, but just 12 were actually built, and 5 were constructed by students (in trade for tuition) to save money.
While still beautiful in context, the recently completed water dome is somewhat underwhelming, and shows how advancing technology since Wright’s time allows today’s designers to exceed what was practical just 50 years ago.
Still a visit to the campus is a great way to try to see the world through Wright’s eyes. Read post in Designboom.
