Prefab Houses - By Jay Barker on Sunday, May 3, 2009 - 0 Comments
Praising Prefab
None other than Jesus said “On this rock I will build my church.” Seattle lawyer Scott Stafne as we’re told in Dwell, seemed to like a similar sentiment when he bought acreage in the surrounding forest and sought about building a prefab house.
He hired Anderson Anderson Architects to design Cantilever House which is basically a steel frame sitting on a concrete foundation bolted to a huge rock that overlooks nearby waterfalls.
The tale of construction posted in Dwell is about the travails of building in such a remote location, but the takeaway is how prefab construction allowed for it all to fall into place.
Busting myths that prefab is always inexpensive or quick, this project showed that sometimes even when other apparent advantages of prefab are diminished, being adaptive to a wide latitude of situations is one of its less known but more valuable virtues. Read story in Dwell.
