Hide n Seek
Hidden House by LA architecture and design firm Standard is a new modern residence that borrowed from the existing structure rather than razing and building from ground-up. As Jeffrey Allsbrook, Standard Principal and Co-Founder says, “Hidden House is the perfect example of how incorporating an existing structure can actually be the key to a successful new design.”
Recently featured in the Dwell on Design East Side Home Tour, MHM is happy to provide a short photographic recap of what you might have seen on tour.
The house which sits on a 7-acre site and is only accessible via a half-mile unpaved road, provides both serenity and views of the bustling city below.
Not only is using an existing structure a more sustainable practice, Standard worked in sustainable materials like reclaimed block wood, cork flooring, and cotton insulation. Hidden House is also solar-ready.
Upon completion Hidden House has made a big impression on those lucky enough to be a part of the Dwell tour, and the architects couldn’t be happier either, “we’re thrilled with the way the house evolved,” said Starndard Principal and Co-Founder Silvia Kuhle.” Read more in Dwell (photo credit Benny Chan).
