Sustain miniHomes
The Toronto firm Sustain builds “the world’s first complete line of sustainable and off-grid RV’s, Travel Trailers, Park Model Homes and Manufactured Homes”.
However if that’s all you new about Sustain and their homes you would be surprised to know their house designs have little if anything in common with the manufactured home of the past.
To give you an example, Sustain is currently teaming up with Dwell to build a California edition of their 12Wide series that will feature passive cooling and ventilation especially for California’s climate.
More features of 12WIDE include 10 foot ceilings, “plug-and-play” connection to renewable power sources like Solar and wind, HVAC with integrated tank-less domestic hot water system, air-handler with a total annual carbon footprint of less than 0.5 Metric Tons, and FSC-certified woods.
Clearly words like “manufactured home” can now be used to describe very different things, and so it’s a welcome addition that a home builder has decided to tackle the long-standing sentiment most American’s have held when they hear things like RV’s, and Park Model Homes. Read post at Inhabitat.
