Now the same idea can also be applicable to furniture. At least designer Jo Meesters thinks so and designed an experimental line of furniture crafted out of discarded wood beams and leftover blankets.

The furniture, Odds & Ends Bits & Pieces is the first work of TESTLAB, an ongoing experimental design bureau for combining different materials and techniques for mass production.

Before you conclude OEBP isn’t for you, consider that the look of the same design could take on a whole new dimension just based on using different colors of blankets (or a different style of weaving).

If Gordon Gecko was a furniture designer he would have said, “experimentation is good,” and we’d have to agree. The real purpose of Odds & Ends Bits & Pieces is to show just how much is possible, and what could be done with existing materials we currently place little or no value on anymore. This leads to hundreds of thousands of homeowners who throw out tons of materials from old kitchens for the new updated one. That in turn leads to an incredible amount of waste – until now.

The home products company Valcucine has rolled out Invitrum, a modern stylish multi-functional kitchen made from all recycled materials.

The frame which is uniquely one complete unit rather than multiple cabinets consists of recycled aluminum, and Valcucine says the production process for recycled aluminum takes just 5% of the energy needed to obtain primary aluminum. Additional materials used in Invitrum include 100% recycled glass.

It’s exiting when major producers of house products develop products that are beautiful, functional, and efficient all at the same time. Valcucine has done that with Invitrum and we hope to see this or an equivalent from the Italian company in America someday soon. Read post in 3rings.com.
